![]() There is a different proposed fix for the tuning problems which involves fitting an insert high up in the top tubing but affecting the F2 and F#2. There are lots of ideas on SOTW forum about what that might be.Ģ. Get a mouthpiece that suits the horn, both for pitch and for sound. I wish I hadn't sold the Martin bari.īut there are two other things to consider.ġ. I was very happy after that and the sound of the instrument was magnificent - as good as the fabled Conn 12M (which I also own). When I had settled on the right size I remade the crescents in plastic rather than cardboard and glued them permanently in position. Those crescents bring down the pitch but they also affect F1 and E1 at the same time, although in my case not by as much. Tuning a Saxophone with Crescentsįirst I played around with cardboard crescents of different sizes until I found the one with the optimum effect on the tuning of F2 (and I think it was E2 also). It had severe tuning issues just as yours does and as reported by the owners of numerous other Martin baritones.įor mine I eventually fitted some crescents in the upper edge of two tone holes. I don't know about the serial number and date, but I used to have a "The Martin" baritone from the late 1950s.
